Alternatively, for those who would prefer to be surrounded by nature, euthanasia can take place by our beautiful countryside lake—offering a serene and tranquil space to say goodbye.

Wherever you choose, everything is handled with the utmost care, compassion, and respect—ensuring your pet’s final moments are as calm and gentle as possible, and that you are fully supported throughout.

Who are we?

Dr Paul Gunning graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London, and has devoted his career to providing compassionate and thoughtful veterinary care. Over the past 15 years, he has gained extensive experience in general practice and end-of-life care, always guided by a deep respect for the bond between people and their pets.

For the last 11 years, Paul has also been proud to own and run a veterinary practice in Gravesend alongside his wife, Abi Gunning. Together, they have built a practice rooted in trust, kindness, and continuity of care for the local community and their beloved pets.

Throughout his career, Paul has come to understand that veterinary medicine is not only about treating illness, but also about supporting families through some of life’s most emotional and meaningful moments. He believes that every pet deserves to pass with dignity, comfort, and peace, surrounded by familiarity and love.

This belief has led him to further his expertise by completing a training certificate in compassionate euthanasia, allowing him to provide gentle, respectful support to both pets and their owners during end-of-life care.

For Paul, this work is deeply personal and profoundly important. Being invited into such an intimate moment is a privilege he never takes lightly, and he is committed to ensuring that every farewell is handled with empathy, kindness, and care.

Where does euthanasia take place?

You are able to choose the setting that feels most right for you and your pet. This can be within our peaceful family room, offering privacy and comfort, or outside by our beautiful countryside lake, surrounded by nature.

Can I be with my pet the whole time?

Of course. You are welcome to stay with your pet for as long as you need, both before and after. There is never any rush, and we will gently support you throughout.

How do I book an appointment?

You can contact us directly, and we will take care of arranging everything for you. We will talk you through the options and find a time that feels right, guiding you every step of the way.

What happens after my pet has passed?

When you feel ready, your pet will remain in our care. We will look after them with the utmost dignity and respect, and gently guide you through the next steps at your own pace.

Can my family be there too?

Yes, we understand how important this moment is. Family members are welcome to be present, and we will do all we can to make the space feel calm and supportive for everyone.

What if I feel unsure or overwhelmed?

That is completely natural. We are here to support you with kindness and understanding, and you can take everything at your own pace. There is no pressure at any stage.

Do you offer euthanasia at your premises? 

Yes, we can arrange peaceful, compassionate euthanasia in our calm countryside setting, within our private family room—allowing your pet to pass with dignity and comfort. If you are at your local vets and feel the time is near, you can let them know you would prefer to take your companion somewhere more personal for their final moments. Simply get in touch with us, and we will gently guide and organise everything for you.

What happens when we arrive? 

You’ll be warmly welcomed into our quiet, private family room. If your companion has already passed, a warm bed will be prepared before your arrival, with soft blankets, a pillow, and comforting touches so you can gently lay them to rest. You are then free to spend as much time as you need saying goodbye—there is never any rush, this time is entirely yours. Soft piano music is always playing, but you are very welcome to choose a special song to honour your companion’s final moments.

How long does it take to receive our pet’s ashes?

We understand how important this is. Ashes are typically returned within 24–48 hours, always handled with the utmost care, respect, and dignity.

Do you offer keepsakes?

Yes, we offer a range of beautiful keepsakes, including pieces that can hold a small amount of your pet’s ashes—creating something truly personal and lasting. Here at Country Pet Cremations, we also have our own on-site art studio, where each keepsake is carefully created with love.
