Where We Began.
My love and compassion for animals all began when I was a little girl at my wonderful grandparents house, where I spent most of my time as a child. It was my second home.
My brothers, my cousins and even my own wellies would be lined up next to my grandads. “Come on Tiddler let’s go feed the chickens and Ducks” my grandad would say. He never called me by my name it was always Tiddler and I loved that.
We would put our wellies on and off we’d go up the garden path with my grandad’s dog Pip following behind us walking past all the rows of home grown vegetables my grandad grew.
I’d be skipping behind with excitement and looking up at my Grandad with such love and admiration.
He’d pass me a small white bucket and then lift the lid up on the corn bin. I loved this because as soon as you lifted that lid you was greeted by cute tiny field mice that would be scurrying around. With my white bucket filled with corn I’d follow my grandad through the gate and into the place I felt was the most magical of places, the orchard.
Blossom on the trees, a gentle wood smoke smell in the air from the fire my Grandad lit that morning. The chickens and Ducks would rush over surrounding me waiting for me to scatter the corn. After feeding them it would be time to help my grandad collect the eggs.
The excitement I would feel as a child every single time whenever I opened the lid to find eggs, still makes me smile whenever I think about it now. Over the years my Nan & Grandad had so many wonderful animals, cats, Dogs, chickens, Ducks, pheasants and even a pig called Wolly which my Grandad won at a fair.
My grandparents home had been in the family before the war began in 1939 where my grandads mum and Dad lived until they passed away and he took the property over. My great grandparents were hard working country folk, they were shepherds and worked the farmland with their shire horses. I still have some of my great grandfather’s horse shoes today that were kept. Growing up as kids we would play games with them in the orchard.
My grandparents taught me how to nurture, how to care, how to love, to have empathy and compassion for all creatures big and small.
Growing up there meant I had a very special, magical childhood with very special grandparents & great grandparents.
My goal was to always try and recreate the life I had growing up for my children and my future grandchildren. So what did I do? Bought a homestead deep in the countryside with my husband and two children where I now have my own chickens, ducks, alpaca’s, 2 cats, a Dog and a lake full of fish to nurture, love and care for.
As you can see my love of animals is strong as is my empathy for doing things the right way. Growing up with so many animals, sadly meant that over the years we lost so many, which is why we started this business. To enable other animal lovers such as yourself to give your beloved animal a dignified send off.
